How To Choose Right Television Size For Your Home?

Are you trying to buy a new TV wondering which size to buy?

Measuring a TV seems very simple but it’s a very terrific process. Before talking about viewing distance from the TV it is better to understand the picture resolution or Pixel configuration of TVs sold today.

1. TYPES OF TV RESOLUTION AVAILABLE IN MARKET

HD TV resolutions:1280 x 720 pixels.

FHD TV resolutions: 1920 x 1080 pixels.

4K UHD TV resolutions: 3840 x 2160 pixels.

Please note more the screen resolution better the picture quality, I guess everyone knows that but do you also know, that the more the screen resolution lesser is the viewing distance.

As the resolution increases the individual pixel size will be too small to be seen by our naked eyes and in turn provide rich picture quality.

Due to this reason, 4K UHD has the best picture quality at present. As it has the highest pixels of 8,294,400.

2. TV VIEWING DISTANCE

A major TV manufacturer recommends a minimum distance of 1.5 X the height of a 4K UHD TV and 3 X the height of an HD TV.

E.g., 55-inch TV will have approx. height of 20 inches, so the minimum viewing distance would be 42 inches or 3.5 feet for a 4K UHD TV and 84 inch or 7 feet for an HD TV.

3. CHOOSING THE RIGHT TV IS MAINLY INFLUENCED BY THE AVAILABLE SIZE OF YOUR ROOM

4. AVAILABLE VIEWING DISTANCE IN INCHES / 2 =RECOMMENDED TV SIZE

For example, if you have about 10 feet away from the TV wall that’s about 120 inches then the ideal screen size for you would be

120 inches / 2 = 60 inches

5. WHERE TO PLACE THE TV?

Once you have figured out the right TV size for your own, now we should know the ideal height to mount the TV.

We can’t expect our sitting position and angles to be the same for everyone in our family. It is ideal to place the vertical centre of the TV to match the eye level of an adult in the sitting position.

Generally, about 42 inches from the floor including the standard couch height of 18 inches.

Avoid placing your TV in front of or opposite a window.
